My work consistently explores the theme of human waste as a significant part of culture in the past, present and the unknown. We live in a fast paced society where convenience dominates social responsibility. What is the relationship between social responsibility and the environment we inhabit? Waste seems to suddenly disappear from our immediate “responsibility” but is always entering a new space whether it remains seen or unseen. Chosen imagery is an exploration of the concept of what we consider “away” and discovering where that place exists. Vacancy and abandonment of matter, energy and space are related to these discovered spaces of the “away.” Images of land and growth are sectioned off and separated, responding to the realization that humans have been attempting to control their inhabited space rather than adapting to it. I create objects and images hoping to bring attention to wasted materials, matter, energy and spaces ignored.
